Bokhtar, July 10 — A meeting to review the socio-economic development results of Khatlon Region for the first half of 2026 was held at the conference hall of the Executive Authority of State Power of Khatlon Region.
The meeting was attended by the Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Tajikistan, Sulaymon Ziyozoda, Chairman of Khatlon Region Davlatali Said, the Chief of Staff and Deputy Chairmen of the Region, heads of regional agencies, chairpersons of cities and districts, chairpersons of town and village jamoats, and other officials.
Opening the meeting, Chairman of Khatlon Region Davlatali Said emphasized that during the first six months of the year, the activities of the regional executive authorities had been focused on implementing the instructions of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, fulfilling the priorities outlined in the President’s annual Address to the nation, and carrying out the decisions of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan. As a result, significant achievements had been made.
The Deputy Chairman of Khatlon Region, Mirzozoda Muzaffar, then presented a report on the region’s key socio-economic indicators.
According to the report, the short-term regional development indicator of Khatlon reached 19.9 billion somoni, with a real growth rate of 108.1%. The region accounted for 24.3% of the country’s overall development indicator.
During the reporting period, industrial production amounted to 6.2 billion somoni, representing an increase of 13.9% compared to the same period last year. Entrepreneurs established 46 new industrial enterprises and workshops, creating 443 new jobs.
The agricultural sector also demonstrated steady growth. Total agricultural output reached 17.8 billion somoni, an increase of 971.5 million somoni compared to the corresponding period of the previous year. During the first six months of the year, the region produced more than 1 million tons of vegetables, 544,600 tons of melons and gourds, 176,000 tons of potatoes, 144,300 tons of fruit, 55,400 tons of meat, and 170,500 tons of milk.
In the field of investment, 48 state investment projects are currently being implemented across the region. Since their launch, more than US$1.2 billion has been invested. Foreign investment attracted during the reporting period amounted to US$1.6 million, while foreign direct investment increased 24-fold compared to the same period last year.
Retail trade turnover reached 13.3 billion somoni, while the volume of paid services amounted to 1.6 billion somoni. Foreign trade turnover totaled US$232.9 million, representing an increase of 110.8% compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.
Labor market indicators also showed positive results. As of July 1, 30,866 new jobs had been created throughout the region. The average monthly salary reached 2,681 somoni, an increase of 22% compared to last year. No wage arrears were reported during the reporting period.
In the construction sector, construction and installation works worth 1.7 billion somoni were completed. As part of preparations for the 35th anniversary of the State Independence of the Republic of Tajikistan, 7,606 facilities have already been built or renovated, representing 123.1% of the planned target.
In the transport sector, a total of 1,301 kilometers of roads were repaired and reconstructed. Freight transportation reached 25.9 million tons, while passenger transportation totaled 100.3 million passengers.
In education, the number of winners of academic Olympiads reached 1,167 students, an increase of 367 compared to the previous year. Enrollment in preschool institutions also increased to 33.2%.
The tourism sector also recorded positive results. During the first half of the year, 930,900 tourists, including 63,200 foreign visitors, traveled to Khatlon Region. In addition, the international forum "Khatlon – Land of Civilizations and Tourism" was held at the Childukhtaron tourist site with the participation of business representatives and development partners.
In his address, Deputy Prime Minister Sulaymon Ziyozoda stressed that every effort should be directed toward ensuring sustainable economic growth across all sectors, expanding development and beautification projects, preserving the achievements of State Independence, and improving the welfare and quality of life of the region’s residents.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Chairman of Khatlon Region Davlatali Said questioned officials and heads of cities and districts regarding socio-economic development indicators, highlighted existing challenges in several sectors, and instructed local authorities to:
- take additional measures to ensure the effective implementation of the country’s strategic goals and state development programs;
- pay greater attention to industrial development, small and medium-sized enterprises, and the creation of new jobs;
- improve living conditions for residents, ensure the full implementation of budget plans, and successfully complete the agricultural harvest;
- guarantee comprehensive preparations for the celebration of the 35th anniversary of the State Independence of the Republic of Tajikistan.
"Despite the achievements made, considerable untapped potential still remains. I am confident that through the dedicated efforts of the people of Khatlon and the strong sense of responsibility demonstrated by our leaders, we will successfully accomplish all of our planned objectives at the highest level," Chairman of Khatlon Region Davlatali Said concluded.
