26 June 2026
Dear Compatriots,
Today is a historic and memorable day for the Republic of Tajikistan and for peace-loving people around the world.
Yesterday, Tajikistan's new initiative entitled "International Decade for Peace for Future Generations, 2027–2036" was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly through a resolution.
On the occasion of this historic event, I sincerely congratulate the peace-loving people of our country.
I would also like to express my profound gratitude to all friendly countries, partners, and international organizations that supported Tajikistan's proposal and contributed to the adoption of this important United Nations General Assembly resolution.
The resolution emphasizes the necessity of strengthening the culture of peace, preventing conflicts, promoting tolerance, mutual understanding, and dialogue among civilizations as the foundation for a dignified life for future generations.
This document calls upon all nations to strive for lasting peace and to value it at every level—from the family, community, country, and region to international relations.
In this regard, we must first and foremost teach our children and young people, who are the builders of tomorrow's world, that peace is not merely the absence of war.
Peace is a culture.
Peace is a responsibility.
Peace is respect for human dignity.
Peace means ensuring justice and equal opportunities for all humanity.
Therefore, the destiny of future generations depends on the decisions we make today.
We are obliged to leave behind a world where future generations can live, develop, and cooperate in an atmosphere of peace and stability.
In this regard, we believe that all global challenges can only be resolved through dialogue and constructive cooperation.
For Tajikistan, the issue of peace is not merely an item on the international agenda.
Throughout their thousands of years of history, the Tajik people, as heirs to the Aryan civilization, have preserved and cherished the values of peaceful coexistence, tolerance, and dialogue among civilizations.
It should be noted that despite possessing such a great cultural heritage, our country was drawn into the tragedy of a devastating civil war during the early years of independence.
That war inflicted enormous damage on our economy, social development, and the overall progress of the state.
However, thanks to our national wisdom and the peace-loving culture of our people, we managed to overcome the consequences of war and begin the process of building a modern state.
As a result of tremendous efforts, peace, stability, political harmony, and national unity were restored in our country, becoming the solid foundation for its continued development.
The peace, tranquility, and complete political stability that prevail in our country today were not achieved easily.
The progress we have made in every sector of the national economy, education, healthcare, culture, and the preservation of our historical and cultural heritage, as well as our active role in addressing global issues—including the international water agenda and glacier preservation—have all become possible thanks to peace and stability.
It is important to emphasize that the source of our achievements and initiatives lies in the long-standing traditions and values of peaceful coexistence that have existed in Tajik society since ancient times.
Located at the crossroads of cultures, languages, and traditions, our land has, throughout history, become a center of coexistence, cooperation, tolerance, and mutual respect for different languages, cultures, and customs.
It is precisely this rich cultural heritage, formed within the framework of the ancient Aryan civilization, that today provides a strong foundation for Tajikistan’s peacebuilding initiatives at the international level.
In this regard, at the initiative of Tajikistan and with the support of like-minded countries, UNESCO's General Conference adopted last year the resolution entitled "The Cyrus Cylinder: An Early Declaration of Human Rights and Cultural Diversity," highlighting the deep historical roots of the values of peace and mutual understanding in the ancient civilization of our ancestors.
It is universally recognized that the Tajik people, together with other Persian-speaking nations, have made a significant contribution to the development of science, knowledge, and world civilization.
The founders of this invaluable heritage were distinguished scholars, philosophers, poets, writers, and thinkers whose unique legacy continues to serve as one of the driving forces of human knowledge and culture.
At this memorable moment, we are also on the eve of another significant celebration—National Unity Day, one of the greatest achievements of the Tajik nation during the period of State Independence.
I sincerely congratulate all the honorable people of Tajikistan, as well as our compatriots living abroad, on this joyous occasion.
This year, National Unity Day, which symbolizes the triumph of peace, tranquility, political stability, and serves as the guarantee of our country's unprecedented development, is being celebrated as we prepare to mark the sacred 35th Anniversary of the State Independence of the Republic of Tajikistan.
National Unity Day holds a truly historic place in the modern history of Tajik statehood. It marks the unity and reconciliation of the Tajik nation and the achievement of lasting peace and stability.
We, the people of Tajikistan, came to fully appreciate the priceless value of peace, stability, unity, and mutual understanding only after experiencing severe political confrontation and the devastating civil war imposed upon our country.
Therefore, our people will never forget the horrors and tragedies of the civil conflict of the early 1990s.
It is important to recall that the foundation of our national peace and unity was laid during the historic 16th Session of the Supreme Council of the Republic of Tajikistan.
Thanks to peace, stability, political harmony, and national unity, our country established a solid foundation for safeguarding state independence and preserving the territorial integrity of newly independent Tajikistan.
National unity, which forms the cornerstone of our young state's ideology, remains the principal guarantee of peace and prosperity for our people, the most important factor for the country's development, and the driving force behind all our constructive plans and initiatives.
Today, we are striving to build a fundamentally new society that meets the demands of modern progress and transformation, enabling the Tajik people and the Tajik state to advance alongside the developed nations of the world.
We must continue to give the highest priority to improving the educational level of our society—especially among children and young people—promoting the study of modern science and technology, digitalization, artificial intelligence, and preparing highly qualified professionals capable of meeting the challenges of the modern era.
In this process, we must always remember one important principle: raising the level of education and awareness in society is the most effective way to prevent ignorance and extremism, strengthen national security and stability, and ensure the sustainable development and prosperity of the state.
To achieve these noble goals, we need, above all else, peace and security, national unity, mutual understanding, and solidarity.
In this regard, I emphasize that, especially in today's world of growing uncertainty and rapid change, peace, stability, national cohesion, and mutual understanding are of paramount importance.
The United Nations General Assembly Resolution entitled "International Decade for Peace for Future Generations, 2027–2036" calls upon us to look toward the future with even greater responsibility.
Our duty is to pass on to younger generations the values of peace, tolerance, a culture of dialogue, and respect for diversity.
Only in this way can we build a society in which lasting peace, security, and human well-being are guaranteed for many years to come.
We intend to hold a High-Level International Conference in Dushanbe next year, on the eve of the 30th Anniversary of National Unity Day, in cooperation with the United Nations and partner countries, to officially launch the "International Decade for Peace for Future Generations, 2027–2036."
I firmly believe that the honorable people of Tajikistan will continue to cherish the invaluable blessings of peace, stability, and national unity, and will make even greater efforts to safeguard these priceless achievements, upon which the hopes and aspirations of every member of our society depend.
With confidence in the bright and peaceful future of our beloved Tajikistan, I once again sincerely congratulate all of you—our dear compatriots at home and abroad—on the adoption of the United Nations General Assembly Resolution "International Decade for Peace for Future Generations, 2027–2036" and on the joyous occasion of National Unity Day.
I wish each and every one of you good health, happiness, prosperity, and a peaceful life.
May this resolution serve as an important international instrument for strengthening friendship and cooperation among nations, promoting the culture of peace, and building a secure and peaceful world for present and future generations.
May peace and tranquility always prevail throughout the world, and may the future of humanity be founded upon justice, mutual understanding, and cooperation.
Congratulations to all our dear compatriots on the international community's support for the peace initiative of the independent Republic of Tajikistan and on the celebration of National Unity Day!
